FOX BUSINESS NETWORK SCORES HIGHEST-RATED THIRD QUARTER EVER IN BUSINESS DAY & TOTAL DAY VIEWERS
FBN Nabs Double-Digit Growth Year-Over-Year Across the Board in Business Day & Total Day
FOX Business Network (FBN) delivered its highest-rated third quarter in network history across Business Day and Total Day viewership, according to Nielsen Media Research. The network, which has seen double-digit audience growth year-over-year, also placed seven of the 15 most-watched business programs on television.
As markets reacted to uncertainties surrounding the coronavirus pandemic and economic re-openings, FBN delivered 216,000 total viewers across Business Day, up 31 percent compared to the third quarter of 2019 and earning the network its highest-rated third quarter ever in total viewers. Additionally, the network’s Total Day viewership saw its largest third-quarter number ever with 153,000 total viewers, up 30 percent year-over-year. Meanwhile, during the critical Market Hours, viewers also grew by 30 percent (219,000 total viewers). All dayparts saw double-digit increases across the 25-54 demographic as well.
In fact, nearly all of FBN’s programs rounded out the quarter with double-digit gains across both total viewers and the A25-54 demo year-over-year. Stuart Varney’s three hour market-open program Varney & Co. (weekdays 9AM-12 PM/ET) saw gains of 24 percent in total viewers and 63 percent in the A25-54 demo, while also ranking among the top 10 business programs on television.
During post-market coverage, FBN’s Lou Dobbs Tonight (5-6 PM/ET) trounced CNBC for the quarter in the 5 PM/ET timeslot with a 25 percent advantage in total viewers, while also outperforming the competition in its 7 PM/ET encore presentation for the 19th consecutive quarter. The program drew in 276,000 total viewers and finished the quarter among the 10 most-watched business programs, while The Evening Edit with Elizabeth MacDonald (6-7 PM/ET) garnered 220,000 total viewers (up 51 percent year-over-year) and 16,000 A25-54 demo viewers (up 60 percent year-over-year.)
In addition to Dobbs, Varney and MacDonald, the network’s core Business Day programs including CAVUTO: Coast to Coast (12-2 PM/ET) anchored by Neil Cavuto, Making Money with Charles Payne (2-3 PM/ET), After the Bell (4-5 PM/ET) co-anchored by Connell McShane and Melissa Francis, and The Claman Countdown (3-4 PM/ET) anchored by Liz Claman all scored placements in the top 15 business programs on television. The programs also notched double-digit audience increases across the board.
Leading into the market open, Maria Bartiromo’s critical three hour pre-market program Mornings with Maria (6-9 AM/ET) saw a triple-digit jump in the A25-54 demo (+122 percent) and was up 59 percent in total viewers. FBN’s weekly primetime programs Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street (Fridays, 9-9:30 PM/ET) and WSJ at Large (Fridays, 9:30-10 PM/ET) saw increases in total viewership year-over-year while Barron’s Roundtable hosted by Jack Otter (Fridays, 10:00-10:30 PM/ET) saw its second highest-rated quarter ever in total viewers.
